Purple Shampoo for Asian Hair

Purple shampoo is the fix: violet sits opposite yellow on the colour wheel, so a small deposit of violet pigment visually cancels the brass. Asian hair is coarse and, once lifted, porous — it grabs pigment faster than fine Western hair, so daily use is how people end up with dull, grey-violet lengths. Start at once a week, look at your hair in daylight, and add a second wash only if yellow is still winning. On the other days, use a colour-protect shampoo as your base.
How long should you leave purple shampoo on?
Two to three minutes is plenty for most hair; five if your hair is very porous or the yellow is stubborn. Time is how you control intensity — the pigment keeps depositing the longer it sits. Work it through wet hair evenly (the roots and mid-lengths usually need less than the ends, which are the most porous), and rinse when the time is up rather than leaving it on “to be safe”.
Why did purple shampoo make my hair grey or purple?
Over-deposit — too often, too long, or hair porous enough to drink it in. It is not permanent: a clarifying wash or two will lift the excess violet out, and it fades on its own with normal washing. To avoid the repeat, cut back to once a week, shorten the timing, and dilute the shampoo in your palm with a little water before applying. Porous, over-lifted hair needs a lighter hand, not a stronger product.
